For-Profit Disclaimer

As stated in the About section, Degree of Wealth is meant to be a for-profit enterprise. There is no expectation of riches, just a hope that DoW will eventually pay its own way. My near, mid, and long-term goals are:

• Degree of Wealth will at least generate enough money to cover the input ingredients (internet, hosting fees, books, coffee, whiskey…).
• The hope is that, eventually, Degree of Wealth will generate enough money to pay minimum wage for the time put into it.
• The stretch goal is for Degree of Wealth to generate enough money to pay per hour at a rate close to my day job so that hours spent on DoW aren’t coming at the expense of my own career.

For this reason, Degree of Wealth may have affiliate links, sponsors, and advertising, and the like. In the spirit of complete transparency, I must acknowledge that this will unavoidably lead to financial conflicts of interest. I will be incentivized to choose content that supports revenue generation.

As the community grows, community members will have the opportunity to support DoW through donations. If people are willing to share a tiny fraction of the money they’ll gain as members of the DoW community, that would be amazing! Ideally, DoW will be like PBS and mostly be supported by member donations so we can keep advertising and such to a minimum (tote bag design TBA :-).

Friends and Colleagues Guarantee

The above conflicts of interest aside, all editorial content and decisions will be held to the “Friends and Colleagues” standard: is this something I would recommend to my friends and colleagues? Only topics, products, etc. which get a hard yes to this question will be considered for DoW. If you’re thinking of sponsoring a post on DoW to shill your snake oil, we’re not interested.

Charitable Mission

In addition to our mission of building a community of educators and researchers helping each other become wealthy in all things, I plan for Degree of Wealth to give back through charitable giving. I commit to donate 25% of the profits to non-profit organizations working in education, research, and related areas. In this spirit, I’ve put a link to the excellent DonorsChoose on the sidebar.
